At Dinas Powys Golf Club, we are proud to have two highly experienced PGA professionals, Matthew and Clive, who are dedicated to helping golfers of all levels improve their game.
PGA Head Professional Clive Coombs
Dinas Powis Golf Club is proud to have had Clive Coombs as part of the team for several years as our PGA Professional.
Clive, a well-known figure in Welsh golf, began his career at Cardiff Golf Club. After working as a professional at several golf clubs across South Wales, he moved on to become The Golf Manager at the Vale Resort and Golf Academy, where he played a key role in developing it into one of Wales' top coaching venues. Clive then moved to Carmarthen Golf Club, before joining us here at Dinas Powis Golf Club. Throughout his career, Clive has coached at a senior level and worked with several international players.
Clive is particularly renowned for his dedication to junior golfers, beginners, and those starting the game for the first time. He oversees all coaching at Dinas Powis Golf Club and is responsible for the well-stocked golf shop, offering a wide range of men’s and women’s golf apparel and equipment from leading suppliers. The shop also features a state-of-the-art ‘GC2’ launch monitor, allowing members and visitors to pre-book sessions for round play, practice, or fun evenings with friends.

PGA Head Professional Matthew Coombs
Matthew joined the PGA in 2010 and began his career as part of the busy golf team at the Vale Resort. After completing his degree in Professional Golf Studies at the University of Birmingham, he became a senior coaching professional at the Vale Academy.
In 2014, Matthew took the opportunity to further his knowledge and coaching skills by moving to China, where he worked at the world’s largest golf resort, Mission Hills. As a full-time coaching professional, he worked alongside some of the world’s top coaches and coached many of China’s leading business figures.
Matthew’s experience extends beyond coaching to include customer service and business management at some of Europe’s most successful resorts. He later became the Head Professional at Pontypool Golf Club, where he combined his passion for coaching with business ownership and retailing.
Now, Matthew is responsible for retail and coaching at Dinas Powys Golf Club. He remains dedicated to helping golfers of all levels, from beginners to elite players, and is committed to growing the junior and ladies sections.
